Police automation initiative announced

The Sindh Police Automation Initiative, which will computerise the department’s records, link police stations through a central sever, and prepare a database of criminals with a fingerprint identification system, was officially announced on Tuesday.
Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal while making the announcement said the Sindh police in their individual capacity had been maintaining computerised records at different units and districts, but no formal effort had been made to create an exclusive dedicated virtual private network with a 3G level of connectivity and highest standards of data security.
The initiative being taken now aimed at creating a connectivity network to loop in 700 nodes which will be communicating with the central server for depositing and retrieving important data.
Once the connectivity network is planned and executed on the ground, further automation extending to weapons shops, private security companies, etc will be materialised.
The minister said after its introduction, the initiative would reduce fake litigation filed in the high court by 25 percent.
“Our vision is to create a continuous link right from the stage of the FIR registration to the stage of court proceedings and prison. Through a click of button any police officer can know desired information regarding any case,” he added. “Our vision is to further get access to NADRA records. This will amazingly increase our investigation capacity and conviction rate.”
