Rawalpindi residents witness cool, calm Eid The population in town celebrated Eidul Azha in peace and the town did not witness any untoward incident during Eid holidays.
The environment of the town remained cool and calm and majority of roads received thin traffic load, particularly on the first and second days of Eid.
Most of the markets in city and cantonment areas including those located along relatively smaller link roads remained open till ‘Fajr’ prayers in the night between Thursday and Friday, however, no extraordinary traffic was witnessed on majority of roads.
After ‘Fajr’ prayers on the first day of Eid, almost all graveyards in town started receiving heavy influx of people who turned up there to offer ‘fateha’ on the graves of their loved ones.
After Eid prayer, however, the city started giving a deserted look. Most of the main markets in town were not operating on the first and second day of Eid.
The roads leading to main markets including Raja Bazaar, Tench Bhatta and Commercial Market received a little traffic load on the first and second day of Eid.
The weather remained pleasant on Eid days because of rainfall but it did not convince majority of people to come out in the evening. The parks in town, however, remained crowded particularly on the second day of Eid. Majority of local restaurants, pan shops, Bar B Q and fast food points did not operate on the first day of Eid, though on second day, the food outlets received customers till late in the night.
A good number of residents expressed to ‘The News’ that there was no electricity loadshedding that made the festive occasion more pleasant.
