The district health department would remain fully functional during Eid holidays and almost all of its dengue-related staff would continue to carry out field duties including surveillance and control measures from first to third day of Eid.
The decision was taken in the wake of a severe outbreak of dengue fever in the district that is getting more and more intense and so far, nearly 650 confirmed patients of the infection have been reported at the three teaching hospitals in the town.
On Thursday, almost all dengue-related staff of district health department was on duty while on the first day of Eid, selected teams of health department would operate in the field from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
The dengue-related staff members belonging to other tehsils of Rawalpindi district would be allowed to avail holiday only on the first day of Eid while local staff members would operate in the field in city and cantonment board areas, said Executive District Officer (Health) Dr. Nasir Mehmood while talking to ‘The News’ on Thursday.
He added 50 to 60 teams comprising local female sanitary patrols have been assigned the task of carrying out surveillance activities from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the field along with as many as 50 male workers for carrying out outdoor control measures.
On the second and third day of Eid, all dengue-related staff members would be on duty and no one is allowed to avail holiday, said Dr. Nasir.
The field staff is on duty and busy performing surveillance activities in the field today, on Thursday, and the senior officials of the health department are monitoring activities being carried out to control dengue fever spread, he said.
To a query, he said the surveillance activities against dengue fever would be carried out in all seven tehsils of district Rawalpindi as per routine during Eid holidays.
All senior officials including District Health Officer and deputy district health officers in tehsils would remain on duty during Eid holidays for supervising control measures and surveillance activities being carried out to check spread of dengue fever,” said Dr. Nasir.
