The idea of setting up of the Corona Insaf Tiger force seems to have many flaws. First, instead of creating a new volunteer force in the midst of a pandemic is not a good idea, as we are fighting against time. It would have been better if personnel from the already trained forces like the army; the Rangers or even the revenue department were used. Second, as the name of the new force indicates, it would be overwhelmingly composed of volunteers from the PTI – which is bound to give it a partisan and political shape creating exclusivity. Inclusivity is the need of the hour in this crises.
I also feel that the money being used in the recruitment and uniforms of the new force; could have been used more efficiently in providing personnel protective equipment (PPE) to our nurses and doctors who are fighting on the front lines and who badly lack PPE.
Moreover, it would be very unfair to expose this untrained force of young volunteers to close contact with corona patients. The myth that younger people are not infected easily by the virus or develop serious disease has been effectively busted throughout the world. Lastly, doing partisan party politics on a national tragedy will not be looked upon kindly by the nation.
