Delegation of Ulema with DIGP in Lahore

LAHORE: A delegation of religious scholars from different schools of thought, management of programmes of Shab-e-Barat and members of Peace Committee called on DIG Operations Rai Babar Saeed in his office on Wednesday.

SSP Operations Muhammad Naveed, ADCG Amir Shafique, officers of District Government and Police department were also present. The delegation discussed matters and issues related to spread of coronavirus and suspension of collective religious activities of Shab-e-Barat at Masajid this year. Ulema and other members of the delegation were of the view that everyone was on one page at this critical time for not holding any religious programme or collective prayers in the mosques and other places on the eve of Shab-e-Barat in wake of impending dangers of Coronavirus. Ulema said that extraordinary situation of Coronavirus in the city demanded seriousness, mutual understanding, cooperation and national unity to defeat this pandemic with joint efforts and consciences. They said that according to the advisory of Council of Islamic Ideology, different fora of Ulema and Mashaikh, the Punjab government and Auqaf Department, it had been agreed not to hold any congregation of Shab-e-Barat to protect people from any possible risks of Coronavirus. Members of the delegation assured the Lahore police that they would convey the message to all citizens to stay at home and observe their religious activities safely at home on Shab-e-Barat.

DIG Operations Lahore Rai Babar Saeed said that Lahore Police had already gained the complete support and cooperation of religious leaders on the government decision not to hold collective Juma prayers at the mosques in wake of impending Coronavirus.

DIG Operations said that Lahore Police have coordination with representatives of all sects and members of Peace Committee on this issue. He said implementation of Section 144 will be ensured on all the squares and pickets on the eve of Shab-e-Barat as well.
