Kiwi Flynn retires from cricket
WELLINGTON: Daniel Flynn, the 34-year-old New Zealand batsman, announced his retirement on Thursday (April 2), bidding adieu to a 16-year-old career. Flynn, a left-handed middle-order batsman, represented New Zealand in 24 Tests, 20 ODIs and five T20Is.
Flynn's maiden Test series was eventful. On his Test debut at Lord's, his unbeaten 29 off 118 helped New Zealand salvage a draw. In the following Test at Old Trafford, he copped a nasty blow from a James Anderson's bouncer, where he lost his two front teeth and took no further part in the match. The attacking southpaw, despite his talent, was never able to cement his place in the national side.
Although he didn't play an international match after January 2013, Flynn had a prolific domestic career. He played 100 first-class matches for Northern Districts and recorded 20 centuries - the most by any batsman from the association. He also captained ND in 47 first-class matches and in 25 limited overs matches.
