As many as 232 under trial prisoners, involved in cases of lesser punishment, have been released from the central prison, juvenile prison, remand home and Malir district prison on the directions of Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Ahmed Ali M Sheikh in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Five under-trial prisoners (UTPs) were released from the juvenile prison, five from the remand home, 117 from the Malir prison and 105 from the central prison.
Earlier, the SHC CJ had ordered the release of as many as 829 UTPs involved in cases of lesser punishment offences so as to prevent the further spread of coronavirus. The prisoners were incarcerated in different prisons of the province.
