Cousin held after sexual assault on minor girl

Police on Thursday arrested a suspect for allegedly subjecting a four-year-old girl to rape in the Lyari area.

According to police, a resident of the Daryabad locality of Lyari, which falls within the limits of the Kalri police station, alleged that his minor daughter was subjected to rape at the house of his brother.

The complainant, who works at a private bank, approached Kalri SHO Zulfiqar Bajwa and complained to him that his four-year-old daughter was at his brother’s house when he received a phone call from his sister-in-law who told him that his daughter had fallen unconscious. He went to his brother’s house and took the minor to a private hospital where doctors confirmed that she had been subjected to rape.

The victim told the family and police that her aunt had gone to the market when her cousin raped her and warned her not to tell anyone about the incident or he would

kill her. Following the complaint, police arrested the suspect and registered a case against him. Further investigations are under way.

Cop martyred

A policeman died when robbers fired gunshots at him near Nagan Chowrangi in the Sir Syed police limits on Thursday, a Daily Jang report said. Mehtab Hussain, a brother of policeman Jaffar Hussain, who was posted at the Special Security Unit, said that his brother was with his friends near his house when he saw four men robbing a food delivery worker on a motorcycle. The cop opened fire at the robbers, who fired gunshots at him. Jaffar died on the spot after four bullets hit him, with one striking him in the heart.

One suspect was wounded in the cop’s firing. Police arrested the injured robber at a hospital, and later apprehended one of his accomplices during a raid in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Sindh’s inspector general of police has sought a report from the SSP Central District.
