Lawyers of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) and the Malir Bar Association (MBA) on Monday boycotted the courts as a mark of protest over the registration of a case against their colleague, Salman Naeem.
A rally led by KBA President Naim Qureshi was taken out from the premises of KBA to the Sindh High Court building.
Qureshi demanded the withdraw of the case that was registered in the Malir City police station. The case against Salman Naeem was registered due to the allegations of torturing a judge. The protesters rejected all the allegations on him, saying that he was not involved in the crime. Due to the boycott, most of the cases remained unheard.
Lawyers closed down the gates of the courts and the judges had to sit in their chambers. Judges of subordinate courts and judicial magistrates ordered officials to unlock the gates and conducted hearings in some cases.
