Haripur Jail receives inmate’s death warrant

HARIPUR: The jail authorities have received death warrant for the execution of a convict who had been sentenced to death by a court on murder charges.
When contacted, officials at the Haripur Central Prison confirmed the receipt of death warrant for Shabbir, who has been languishing in the jail for the last more than 20 years.
Following the rejection of mercy petition by higher authorities, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department issued death warrant for Shabbir, convicted under section 302, for September 17. Shabbir, resident of Rawalpindi, was accused of murdering a teenage boy in Rawalpindi. According to official sources, the jail authorities are also trying to arrange his final meeting with the family members.
