The Punjab government’s first ever “Punjab Non-Formal Education Council” (PNFEC) was formally launched on International Literacy Day here on Tuesday.
The launch took place at an event organized by Literacy & Non Formal Basic Education (L&NFBE) Department Punjab with the support of donor agencies at a local hotel. Besides representatives of UNESCO, UNICEF and other INGOs and local NGOs, Secretary L&NFBE Department Punjab Dr Naveed Ahmed Chaudhry, Additional Secretary M. Akram Jan and other officials of the department attended the event. Earlier the speakers highlighted the need of promoting literacy keeping in view this year’s theme of International Literacy Day “Literacy and Sustainable Societies”.
Meanwhile different NGOs also organised events in the provincial metropolis to celebrate the day urging the government to make efforts to enhance the country’s literacy rate.
PU exams: Punjab University (PU) Examinations Department has notified that the BA/BSc supplementary examination 2015 will commence from October 8th, 2015 while the admission forms and fee will be received upto September 11, 2015. The detailed schedule is available at PU website www.pu.edu.pk.
PITB team meets DIG Operations: A seven-member delegation of Punjab Information Technology Board called on DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf here on Tuesday.
DIG said that Punjab Information Technology Board and software developers had played a key role in introducing digital monitoring and smart policing in all the divisions. He said that another software was also being introduced with which location of police personnel carriers and petrol mileage could be checked.
LWMC takes steps for
waste-free Eid: To make Eid-ul-Azha's cleanliness measures more effective and result oriented, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has started holding meetings with city’s all public representatives including MPAs, MNAs and political coordinators.
The LWMC teams headed by Suhail Anwar Malik (Senior Manager Operations-Albaryak area) and Asif Iqbal (Senior Manager Operation- Ozpak area) met Saif-ul-Malook Khokhar, MPA-PP 160, Bao Akhtar, MPA-PP 144, and Shahbaz Ahmad, MPA-PP 143 at their offices. The LWMC officials briefed public representatives about the mechanism of operations including assigning workers and deploying machinery, waste bags' distribution, setting up of camps and establishment of waste transfer stations in their respective constituencies on Eid.
Concerns and suggestions for improvement of Eid-ul-Azha plan have also been requested from public office holders to make measures in compliance with the needs of the area. Jamil Khawar, spokesperson for LWMC, said the meetings with administrations of cooperative housing societies, Pakistan Railways and Cantonment Board Lahore had also been scheduled to chalk out a mechanism of waste collection and transportation. Although the said institutions do not fall in the jurisdiction of the LWMC yet it will facilitate them in the collection and transportation of animal waste to ensure cleanliness.
