PESHAWAR: A special floral wreath laying ceremony was held at the Yadgar-i-Shuhada here in the back drop of Golden Jubilee of Defence Day to commemorate sacrifices of the heroes who laid down their lives to safeguard the frontiers of the country during operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’.
According to an Inter-Services Public Relations communication, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Corps Commander Peshawar Lt-Gen Hidayatur Rahman and Lt-Gen (R) Mumtaz Gul laid the floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada here at the Corps Headquarters. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented salute to pay respect to the great heroes.
Speaking on the occasion, Corps Commander Lt-Gen Hidayatur Rahman said that the nation was proud of the heroes who had stood fast in the hour of need.
He said that backed by the people of Pakistan, the armed forces were purging the society of terrorism.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of Shuhada families, political leadership, judges, serving and retired army officers, police, members of civil society, students and teachers of colleges and universities.
