Nation celebrates Defence Day

BAHAWALPUR: The nation observed the Defence Day with great enthusiasm and zeal here on Sunday.
Special prayers were offered in mosques for the solidarity of the country. The main Defence Day function was held at the Bahawalpur Garrison where Bahawalpur Corps Commander Lt-Gen Javed Iqbal laid floral wreath on the Shuhada Monument. Later, the corps commander inaugurated an event in which latest weapons, arms and ammunition were displayed. Meanwhile, a contingent of the Pak Army Jawans, led by Col Aftab, laid floral wreath on the grave of 1971 war martyr Sepoy Shabbir Hussain at Qaimpur. Likewise, an exhibition of books and newspapers regarding the Defence Day and 1965 war was held at Sadiq Reading Library. The Defence Day celebrations were also held at Bahawalnagar and Rahimyar Khan.
KASUR: The Defence Day was observed with traditional zeal and fervour here on Sunday.
The army officers and others visited the Mustafabad Graveyard and laid floral wreaths on the graves of Khem Kern Sector martyrs. Meanwhile, Lt-Col Saiyab of the Rangers visited the Kot Murad Khan Graveyard where he laid floral wreath on the grave of Rangers personnel Muhammad Fayyaz who was martyred while fighting at Hussainiwala Sector.
