Minister, Belarus envoy discuss tourism, sports cooperation

Islamabad : Minister of Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr. Fehmida Mirza on Thursday said Pakistan had immense potential in the field of sports and tourism that had yet to be tapped.

She was talking to Ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan Andrei G Ermolovich, who called on her here.

The minister said Pakistan could learn lots of things from Belarus in sports, especially in hockey and football.

She said the annual winter sports vacations were celebrated in Belarus every year with great zeal, so they should be replicated in Pakistan for sports promotion.

Dr Fehmida said to reap the benefits and further cooperation between the two countries, concentrated efforts needed to be paid towards the two areas.

She said the two countries should focus attention on the development of mechanisms in tourism and sports.

The minister claimed that it was high time to go for the implementation of all MoUs more so in terms of investment, exchange of travel operators and also sports coaches.

She said matters of mutual interest like agriculture, industry, tourism, and trade should also be advanced through this meeting.

The minister said she was more focused on up-gradation and revamping of the Pakistan Sports Complex and other facilities in order to provide a great deal of facilitation to the athletes.

She said Pakistan wanted to learn from the experience of Belarus in sports, especially in hockey and football.

The ambassador invited the minister to Belarus in April this year for signing MoUs regarding bilateral cooperation in the field of sports and tourism.
