The Chinese consulate Lahore has provided IT equipment including computers and printers to Government College University’s Centre for Excellence China Studies (GCU-CECS) and also pledged to provide books on Chinese language and culture to the centre.
“Pakistan-China friendship has a bright future. Language is a bridge that connects people and this Centre will play a key role in bringing the people of China and Pakistan close”, said Mr Yun Boren, Consul General of Peoples Republic of China in Lahore while addressing the inauguration of Chinese Language Course organised by GCU-CECS.
Mr Yun Boren said Pakistan and China were strong strategic partners and their friendship had stood the test of time. He also laid a particular stress on bringing the young generations of both brotherly countries closer and bridging the social and cultural gap.
GCU-CECS Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt shared the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and former Secretary Punjab Higher Education Abdullah Khan Sumbal for establishing the centre at GCU. He said the Chinese Language Certificate was just a beginning and the centre would soon start a diploma and ultimately a degree programme on Chinese language and literature.
However, he said the big aim of GCU China Studies and Centre was to support different aspects of China, which would ultimately improve their understanding about the country and bring the people of both countries more close. In a light mood, he also shared with the participants that he, the director of the centre, was the student of Chinese language course. He said they had received huge number of applications for admissions to Chinese Language Certificate which showed the interest of people from all walks of life in learning Chinese language.
Commissioner Lahore Abdullah Khan Sumbal said Pakistan had very strong strategic and economic ties with China, so the government officials should also learn the Chinese Language. He also welcomed Mr Yun Boren in Lahore.
Speaking on the occasion, Zoology Department Chairperson Prof Dr Nusrat Jahan said China had played a very important role in development of Pakistan. She hoped research conducted by GCU-CECS would improve their understanding about different aspects of Chinese culture, political system and economic development.
