Cop dies in road accident
LAHORE:A 29-year-old police constable was killed by a speeding van in the Walton Road area on Sunday.
The victim identified as Muzammil hailed from Khanewal and served in PRU. He was on his way on a cycle when a rashly-driven van hit and injured him. He was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police arrested the accused driver identified as Naeem Zulfiqar. The CCPO expressed sorrow over the death of the constable and directed the SSP Dolphin to have liaison with the family of the deceased constable. He also announced that the department would bear all burial expenses for the deceased.
car stolen: Thieves stole the car of a hockey player, Waqas Sharif, in the Johar Town area on Sunday. The car was parked outside his house. Waqas lodged a complaint of the theft with Township police station.
checking: Dolphins Squad and PRU officials showed immediate response to the all 616 calls received on helpline 15 during the last week.
Both wings of police also extended help to 268 people on different roads, checked 17,374 motorbikes and 24,187 persons. As many as 12 vehicles and 46 motorbikes were impounded and 161 people were arrested due to incomplete documents.
Dolphin Squad and PRU also arrested 30 persons on violating the ban on wheelie, three for kite flying, seven for firing in the air and one accused of violating the Fire Arms Act.
Patrolling post: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHA) Additional IG visited Gujranwala and Faisalabad regions and reviewed the actions taken by PHP to protect the lives of the people on the highways.
He inaugurated Ahmedpur Virkan Patrolling Post in Gujranwala Region. Moreover, he visited Chowki Kamalpur in Faisalabad Region and reviewed the performance of the personnel.
He also planted saplings under the Clean and Green Pakistan campaign in patrolling posts.
The PHP additional IG also held police darbars in both regions. Addressing the darbars, he said patrolling police should win the confidence of travellers in every case so the field officers should promote public-friendly policing.
