The Punjab Food Authority sealed five salt processing units during inspection of 690 units across the province here on Friday. PFA Director General Irfan Memon said that the purpose of the inspection was to ensure right amount of iodine in salt and other minerals according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The authority fined two units, seized the production of five units and served warning notices on 439 salt units. The samples from 554 units were sent for laboratory test for further analysis.
In Lahore zone 247, in Rawalpindi 312, Multan 81 and in Muzaffargarh 50 units were checked by PFA. The PFA DG said Bilal Salt unit was sealed in Faisalabad on violation of PFA Act, KK Rao Mushtaq and Shabbir salt units in Okara were sealed.
