PAC to get briefing from NAB chief following TI report
ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has decided to get a briefing form the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman, Justice (R) Javed Iqbal, after the report of the Transparency International that showed a rise in corruption in the year 20198 and the country’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) slips to three per cent to 120 in 2019 from 117 in 2018.
A meeting of the Public Accounts Committee was held on Thursday with its Chairman Rana Tanveer Hussain in the chair in which the audit paras related to Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission for the financial year 2012-13 were examined.
PAC appreciated the services of the officials of the Pakistan Atomic Energy and settled their audit paras with saying that Karachi Nuclear Power Plant is identity of Pakistan, and they have done the research work with limited resources.
PAC member Khawaja Muhammad Asif remarked that the media was discussing corruption of the billions of rupees while the audit officials were bringing the audit pars of small amounts.
He said the transparency International has released its report that shows rise of corruption in Pakistan while the NAB chairman claiming that the bureau has recovered Rs153 billion.
Ms Shahida Akhtar Ali remarked that PAC has recovered over Rs352 billion which is more than then NAB claims of recoveries.
PAC Chairman Rana Tanveer Hussain said that it would be better we should get a briefing from the NAB chairman about the recoveries which he claimed.
