Schools near Gaddafi Stadium to close at 11am

LAHORE: The District Education Authority (DEA) has directed the public and private schools in the surroundings of Gaddafi Stadium to observe school timings till 11am only due to the Pakistan-Bangladesh T-20 series starting Friday (today).

Sources privy to the developments said owing to strict security measures to ensure safety to the visiting Bangladeshi team to play the T20 matches, the schools situated near Gaddafi Stadium would observe timings till 11am on Friday, Saturday and Monday.

DEA CEO Pervaiz Akhtar confirmed the school timings during the T-20 matches in Gaddafi Stadium. It is pertinent to mention here that the district government is using the parking lot of FC College situated near the Gaddafi Stadium as parking for the visitors. FCC will remain closed on Friday, Saturday and Monday.

GCU: Government College University (GCU) here on Thursday launched a campaign “Know Your Sustainable Development Goals” for mainstreaming United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in teaching and learning experiences across the university.

The campaign, jointly initiated by the university’s Environment Protection Society (EPS) in collaboration with the Green Box, is aimed at supporting and accelerating local and national capacity of key stakeholders, including teachers and students, to implement the SDGs.

In his keynote address at the workshop held in connection with the campaign’s launch, GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi talked about the SDGs and their relevance for the elderly people. He highlighted the current and future population aging issues in Pakistan in comparison to the rest of the world.

The VC said GCU faculty members were well-positioned to provide learners with skills to think through complexity, transcend paradigms, learn through dialogue and communication, engage in deep reflection, develop worldview and values sensitivity, and assess when activities support or detract from achieving the SDGs – as well as other important skills, knowledge and vocational expertise which could help create more effective SDG implementers and would also help accelerate the implementation of all the SDGs.

The one-day workshop was attended by faculty members and staff from across all academic disciplines in the university and they were provided with the knowledge, skills and motivation to understand and address the UN SDGs building on in-depth academic or vocational expertise to implement SDG solutions through teaching, learning and research processes at the university.

Workshop: The faculty members and students at Punjab University’s Centre for Clinical Psychology (CCP) taking initiative for promotion of mental health organised an awareness workshop on “De-stressing the Stress” here on Thursday.

The students from various universities in Lahore also participated in the event. Clinical psychologists briefed the audience about the stress, its impact on daily routine and the various techniques to manage it.
