Causes behind youths’ inclination for drugs highlighted

LAHORE: A seminar titled "Let's Start Dialogue on Drug Use Prevention" was organised by National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, in collaboration with Deputy Commissioner Office, Drug Advisory Training Hub (DATH) and Colombo Plan to highlight the issue of drug abuse and illicit trafficking and its impact on society.

A large number of students and faculty members attended the seminar. Addressing on the occasion, Syed Zulfiqar Hussain, consultant, Anti-Drugs Narcotics Campaign, Muhammad Ayub, adviser, Colombo Plan, Shahzad Tanveer, NCA deputy registrar, Dr Masood Ahmed and Prof Shahnaz Malih highlighted several causes that were observed in the younger generation who go for drug addiction.

They proposed recommendations such as self-believe, self-control, reduction in communication gaps, strong family bonding, self-awareness and involvement in healthy activities as a workable way out to counter the inclination towards drugs.

The speakers also highlighted that the main reasons of drug inclination might include depression, peer pressure, unintentional dependency on medicines, lack of self-control, for experience and to enhance performance. They suggested treating a drug addict as a patient and always being empathetic for his/her rehabilitation process. Principal Prof Dr Murtaza Jaferi said students could highlight the important issue in society with their artwork.

Fires: A fire broke out at five different places on Tuesday. The causes of fires were stated to be short circuits and gas cylinder blast.

A fire broke out in a room of a house in Nishat Colony. A fire broke out in a kitchen of a house in A-1 Block, PIA Society. A fire broke out in a shop at Bank Stop on Ferozpur Road after the explosion of a gas cylinder. A fire broke out in a cloth godown on Dhani Ram Road, New Anarkali. A fire broke out on the eighth floor of a plaza on Gulberg Main Boulevard.
