Bodies formed to check fuel adulteration

LAHORE: Environment Protection Department has constituted a team of all departments concerned under the chairmanship of Commissioner Lahore Division to formulate an action plan to control fuel adulteration business in Lahore.

This was informed to Minister EPD Rizwan during a departmental meeting here in EPD’s committee room on Monday. The minister was briefed on the issues of fuel adulteration business in Lahore and decision taken in the recent meeting under the chairmanship of Secretary EPD in her office.

Team members consist of representatives of district administration, Punjab Police, IPWM, EPA, ICI&SD, Transport and HDIP.

The Secretary Saima Saeed briefed the minister that that team will review the powers delegated to district administration and police under prevailing rules for taking actions against fuel adulteration. They will visit HDIP laboratory to examine SOPs for sampling and testing of fuel samples, including sampling fess and sample specifications for checking duel adulteration, devise SOPs for step-wise time-bound actions against smuggled petrol, illegal selling points in residential areas and re-sale of condemned oil and team will present its action plan to commissioner Lahore for seeking his guidance in the matter. It was suggested that commissioner Lahore will be invited in the next meeting of Cabinet sub-committee on Smog to further deliberate on the matter, she concluded.

The minister EPD said that matter having immense importance in terms of legal and environmental aspects and progress being monitored by the CM.
