Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a couple for their alleged involvement in the kidnappings of newborn babies in Karachi.
The couple was apprehended in a raid conducted on a tip-off near the Qatar Hospital in Orangi Town during the early hours of Friday. The man was identified as Shaukat and his wife as Fauzia alias Dua.
According to District West SSP Fida Hussain Janwari, the couple used to carry out criminal activities in the surroundings of the Qatar Hospita. He said it was suspected that the couple was trying to kidnap a newborn baby from the hospital when they were arrested by the police.
The officer said the police were trying to ascertain if the couple was a part of a gang. A case has been registered and an investigation was under way.
