PESHAWAR: The Build Pakistan Movement on Friday alleged irregularities in the Mines and Minerals Department and vowed to expose these anomalies.

Addressing a press at the Peshawar Press Club on Friday, the chairman of the organisation, Moazzam Butt, said some elements were involved in awarding contracts of the exploration of the mines and minerals in the erstwhile Fata to the blue-eyed ones. “Massive corruption of millions of rupees is going on in the Mines and Mineral Department daily,” he alleged. Moazzam Butt said the Legal Empowerment Commission would be tasked with probing and exposing the corruption in the Mines and Minerals Department.

He said there was no as such benefit for the people in the Mines and Minerals Act 2019 and that’s why the people of tribal districts had turned down the act. Moazzam Butt said those benefitting from the Mines and Minerals Act 2019 were not from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said all the citizens should be treated equally following the laws of the land where their rights had been protected. “Our organization would hold a ‘Public Economic Convention’ in February to speak about the economic grievances in the province and their redressal,” he went on to add. “Better opportunities should be made available to every citizen for their welfare and prosperity,” he said.
