PESHAWAR: The Directorate of Archives and Libraries, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has recommended cultural heritage status for the Government Higher Secondary School No 1 Peshawar City and restrained the Education Department from making any changes to the historic building.
An official of the Education Department said that the District Education Officer, Peshawar, had received a letter in this regard from the Directorate of Archives and Libraries, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Directorate of Archives and Libraries had stated in the letter that experts of heritage had conducted visit of the school, which was established in the British era 1928 and it was over 90 years building.
In the letter, the EDO Peshawar was strictly restrained from making any changes to the school building as under Section 20 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Antiquity Act 1997 changes to such buildings were strictly banned.
It was also stated that the old quarters in the school, which are in bad condition will also be restored as heritage. It said that the school building was a precious heritage and all steps would be taken for its preservation.
It said that school building is a symbol of Mughal Architecture and thousands of students had studied there.
