Punjab decides to restructure TDCP

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to restructure the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) with a view to promoting tourism and culture, conserving buildings and sites of historical importance and bringing the youths in the mainstream.

A meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Azam Suleman Khan reviewed the matters regarding restructuring of the TDCP. Provincial Minister for Finance Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht, Additional Chief Secretary Shaukat Ali, Finance Secretary Abdullah Khan Sumbal, Planning and Development Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, Walled City of Lahore Authority Director General Kamran Lashari and other officers concerned attended the meeting.

The meeting deliberated on a proposal to establish a tourism, culture and heritage authority to govern the matters related to tourism, historical and cultural heritage, youth affairs, sports and the Walled City.

The chief secretary said that proposed authority should be mandated to work for restoration of historical buildings to their original form, besides making them attractive for tourists. A proposal to set up a separate directorate under the authority for brining youths in mainstream also came under consideration.
