Daylong rain, winds stall life in City

LAHORE:There is a risk of closure of inter-cities connecting roads due to heavy snowfall and rains in several districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, predicted Met office here on Monday.

Met officials said the districts where roads may close due to heavy snowfall and rains included in the districts of Swat, Kohistan, Sangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbotabad, Murree, Galyat, Neelum, Bagh, Haveli, Rawalakot, Astore, Hunza and Skardu on Monday (night).

Met officials further predicted heavy rains may trigger landslides and avalanches in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Malakand and Hazara districts. Met officials said that a strong westerly wave is affecting most upper and central parts of the country and likely to persist in upper parts till Tuesday morning.

They said mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, while partly cloudy weather with light rain and snowfall over hills is expected in Gilgit Baltistan. Fog is likely to prevail in plain areas of Punjab and Sindh during night and morning hours of Tuesday.

The city received daylong rain which stopped for a brief time in the evening. Met officials said the city may witness similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours. The rain in city started on Sunday night and continued till Monday evening. Stagnant rainwater caused traffic jams on many roads. Minimum temperature recorded in the city was 9.8 C while maximum was 12.5.

ROOF COLLAPSE: A man received injuries when roof of a house collapsed in rain near Bedian here on Monday. Rescue 1122 reached the scene and shifted the victim to General Hospital. The victim has been identified as Allah Rakha, son of Hadayat Ali, of Karbath village. The victim received minor injuries, a rescuer said.
