All set for second commissioner marathon on Sunday
All arrangements have been made for the second Commissioner Karachi City Marathon that will take place on Sunday.
Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani conducted a session on the marathon on Friday. He visited the Moin Khan Academy where the prize distribution ceremony would be held after the race.
District South Deputy Commissioner Syed Salahuddin, who is also the organiser of the marathon, briefed the session on the arrangements for the event.
According to a statement released by the Commissioner Office, Salahuddin said all arrangements had been made and strict security measures taken for the marathon. He added that the traffic police had been taken on board to manage the traffic during the event.
The deputy commissioner also informed the meeting about parking arrangements near the Moin Khan Academy.
Former cricketer Moin Khan and senior police officials also attended the meeting. Khan said the marathon was a great effort on the part of the commissioner. With such marathons, he added, sports could be promoted in the city and the youth would engage in healthy activities.
It was also decided in the meeting that general public would not be permitted to use the route of the marathon during the event.
The marathon is scheduled to start at as early as 9am on Sunday on the 16th street of Khayaban-e-Tipu Sultan. It will end exactly at the starting point after passing through Abdul Sattar Edhi Avenue, Khayaban-e-Ittehad and Khayaban-e-Shaheen. The total length of the route is around 10 kilometres.
Volunteers in uniform would be monitoring all the routes of the marathon, Salahuddin said. Those willing to participate in the marathon can register themselves on the website of Commissioner Office.
