KP CM wants work expedited on three mega projects in Swat

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Sunday said that the establishment of Engineering University Swat and Paeds Hospital would be made possible at Kanju Township.

The chief minister was presiding over a meeting regarding the establishment of Engineering University Swat, Paeds Hospital Swat and Women Engineering University at Chief Minister’s House, said a handout.

He added that the required land would also be identified soon for the establishment of a Women Engineering University in the district. The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to work and negotiate with the local people to resolve the land issue efficiently and that a report regarding the matter be submitted to him within two weeks. He also directed commissioner Malakand and deputy commissioner Swat to seek the consent of the local people for the resolution of land issue so that the inauguration of these projects would be made possible in July this year.

The chief minister said that specialised technical education would be provided in these engineering universities. He added that legislation for Swat District Development Authority and a master plan for all these three projects would also be ensured. The meeting was briefed in detail regarding the three schemes, and also about the acquired land with Swat Development Authority for the projects.

The meeting was informed that the projects will be completed in two different phases. Swat Development Authority has acquired a total 5,832 kanals land, i.e. 4424 kanals for the first phase and 1408 kanals for the second phase. The meeting was further informed that negotiations with the local peoples will be carried out to resolve the land issue for the establishment of these projects in Swat.

It was further told that the concerned authorities are taking concrete steps to make the process of dialogue with the local population successful and to satisfy the people for the utilisation of land for these projects. The meeting was assured that the issue would be resolved soon. He stated the university and Paeds Hospital will be set up for the benefit of the people of Swat so that people over there do not have to go anywhere for health facilities and technical education.

He said establishing Engineering Universities will not only play a role in the development of Swat but the degree holders from these universities would be able to play a vital role in the development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the country in general.
