People stage demo after relative dies unattended in RHC

VEHARI: Hundreds of people staged a demonstration after their relative died unattended at the Rural Health Centre, Karampur, on Thursday.
Rab Nawaz, 39, was brought to the RHC in a critical condition about 5pm but on-duty doctor Atta Zafar allegedly left the centre at 1pm while the dispensers, Shahid and Sharif, did not attend the patient. As a result, the patient died unattended in the RHC. Meanwhile, the relatives of deceased Rab Nawaz staged a demonstration and changed slogans against the RHC doctor and other staffers.
When contacted, District Health Officer Dr Afzal Bashir claimed that the patient died after being given emergency treatment as he was in a critical condition. He said that he did not know whether the doctor was present or not in the RHC. He, however, said that he would inquire about it.
