A man was gunned down apparently for marrying the woman of his choice in Hijrat Colony on Tuesday. He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead.
He was later identified as 35-year-old Abu Bakar Siddiqui, son of Abu Bakar Kareem.
According to the Hijrat Colony police, the couple had recently contracted freewill marriage and moved to Punjab. The woman’s family traced them and took their daughter away with them. Police said it was Siddiqui’s third marriage and he was a tailor by profession.
The family of the woman, who had also registered a kidnapping case against Siddiqui at the Civil Line police station, called him at their house for negotiation.
He was shot and killed while he was on the way to meet his wife’s family.
Police suspected that the woman's brother could be behind the incident, and said they were investigating the case from different angles.
