Pakistan can benefit from Chinese technology: minister
LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun has said that China has made great advancement in technology and now Pakistan has the opportunity to take advantage of it.
According to a press release, he said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 13th IEEE International Conference on Open Source Systems & Technologies (ICOSST 2019) at University of Engineering and Technology (UET) here on Tuesday.
He said with China’s support, Pakistan could move forward in information technology. Talking to the media, the minister said the bill related to the student unions would be presented in the Punjab Assembly, adding student unions were banned because of their politicisation. The unions would be restored only if they would work for the betterment of students, he added.
He said the government wanted to bring about a positive change in the lives of students. He said guidance centre would also be established this academic year to provide guidance to students on career counselling, scholarships and job placement.
UET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar said Pakistan needed to focus on the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies since they had the potential to boost our economy in several areas and enhance exports to billion dollar.
rules, regulations: A high-level meeting at Punjab University (PU) held on Tuesday decided to take integrated measures for teaching students to follow the rules and regulations so that they could become good citizens, contribute to Pakistan’s development and help build a great nation.
PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad chaired the meeting which was attended by deans of faculties and heads of teaching and non-teaching departments. The meeting decided to implement zero-tolerance policy against those students who would be found involved in violation of semester and other university rules and regulations.
The meeting decided to issue instructions to hostel wardens and superintendents to keep an eye on the activities of students and launch counselling programmes for the students where necessary.
Prof Niaz Ahmad said the university had implemented new model of good governance in the university administration due to which transparency and merit were being reflected in all the operations of the university.
He said only those nations made progress which followed discipline and law of the land. He said the country demanded the universities produce citizens with high moral values, knowledge and skills.
