Youth gunned down on resistance by three dacoits

OKARA: A youth was shot dead on resistance on GT Road here on Sunday.

Three dacoits stormed into the farmhouse of Muhammad Asif of Murghi Khana Stop and snatched cash and valuables. The dacoits shot at and injured Asif when he offered resistance. He was rushed to a hospital where he died. Sadar police have registered a case.

THREE OF A FAMILY TORTURED: An old woman, her daughter and grandson were brutally tortured and injured at 12/1R village on Sunday.

Amina Bibi had filed a case in a court against alleged murderer Muhammad Akram. The accused was pressurising the woman to withdraw the case, which she refused. On the day of the incident, 15 accused, including Muhammad Akram, Javed Nasim, Tariq Nadeem, Inamullah, Shaista Bibi and Shakila Bibi, entered the house of Amina and allegedly tortured her, her daughter and grandson and made a video of the incident. Satghara police have registered a case.

OBITUARY: Former medical superintendent of the DHQ Hospital Muhammad Aslam Kaimkhani died of cardiac arrest here on Sunday. He was carried to the Emergency Ward of the DHQ Hospital but he could not survive.

WOMAN BEATEN BY IN-LAWS: A married woman was beaten and tortured by her in-laws at Mohallah Eidgah on Sunday. Alia Bibi was allegedly beaten and tortured by her brothers-in-law, father-in-law Ghulam Nabi and sisters-in-law Rehana and Rukhsana over a domestic issue. The accused persons also cut her hairs. Haveli Lakha police have registered a case.

16 HELD WITH NARCOTICS: Police have arrested 16 drug pushers and recovered narcotics from them.

The police arrested Mukhtiar Ahmad with 5,300 grams hashish, Nabil Masih with 30 litres liquor, Asif with 30 litres liquor, Khursheed with 29 litres liquor, Dost Muhammad with 18 litres liquor, Qaisar Javed with 24 litres liquor,Faizan with 60 litres liquor, Muhammad Imran with 30 litres liquor, Shahzad with 20 litres liquor, Muhammad Fazil with 28 litres liquor, Muhammad Usman with 20 litres liquor, Muhammad Siddiq with 20 litres liquor, Liaqat Ali with 1,470 grams charas, Muhammad Naveed with 3,620 grams charas, Muhammad Iqbal with 510 grams charas and Waheed with 210 grams charas. The police have registered separate cases.

11 INJURED IN ACCIDENT: Eleven passengers were injured in a car-rickshaw collision near 49/2L village on Sunday.

The injured were included four women and three children. Sadar police have started investigations.

DEATH CONDOLED: Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Ijaz Alam Augustine on Sunday visited the house of PTI leader Ashraf Khan Sohna and condoled with him on the sad demise of his younger brother Muhammad Mansha. PTI district president Syed Abbas Raza Rizvi, Ghulam Sarwar and other leaders of the party were also present.

Power outages: People are facing problems due to unscheduled power loadshedding in the city and its adjoining areas.

The power outages continued in various localities of the city caused problems for the residents. The long hours power shutdown also caused water shortage in various areas. The power outages also halted business activities in the city. The people have demanded the authorities look into the matter and take steps to resolve the issue.
