NOWSHERA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) chief Maulana Samiul Haq on Saturday said the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan as well as the Afghan Taliban would have to join hands to restore peace in the region.
He was talking to a delegation of the Utmanzai tribe from North Waziristan at his residence in Akora Khattak.
Malik Shah Nawaz Khan and Maulana Abdul Hai Haqqani led the delegation. It included Malik Arbab Khan, Malik Yaqoob Khan, Malik Akbar Khan Wazir, Malik Haji Naik, Malik Salam, Malik Mohammad Khan, Malik Niaz Khan, Malik Nazar Khan and Malik Shireen Khan.
JUI-S deputy chief Maulana Hamidul Haq and provincial head Mohammad Yousaf Shah were also present on the occasion. Later talking to reporters, Maulana Samiul Haq claimed that he had persuaded the Afghan government and the Taliban to come to the negotiating table to sort out their differences.
He said that the prevailing circumstances warranted serious consideration as conspiracies were being hatched to pit the Muslims against one another.
He said the government was sending the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan back home, but it needed to expedite the process keeping in view the difficulties being faced by them.
Samiul Haq said the tribal people were loyal to Pakistan and they had always rendered sacrifices for the homeland.
He urged the government to compensate the IDPs for the losses they suffered during displacement and repair the damaged infrastructure in North Waziristan.
The JUI-S head said the government should take notice of the harassment of the North Waziristan IDPs in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak and other cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
