GCU delegates limited powers to dean

LAHORE
IN the wake of growing administrative and financial crisis owing to absence of any top administrative head, Government College University (GCU) syndicate on Saturday delegated limited powers to varsity’s Dean Faculty of Science and Technology to address some of the financial and academic matters of the most urgent nature.
The emergent meeting of GCU syndicate, summoned by Registrar Dr Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh under Section 2 (c) of GCU Syndicate Business Rules 2004, also approved the ongoing admission process. However, it desired to stop admissions on sports basis and several other matters till the appointment of regular vice-chancellor.
The 48th meeting of GCU Syndicate was chaired by University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha with the mutual consensus of the syndicate members which included representatives of higher education, finance and law departments besides Lahore High Court Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, former LHC Chief Justice (r) Khwaja Muhammad Sharif, Qazi Hamayun Fareed, eminent cricketer Shafqat Rana, MPA Muhammad Hassaan Riaz and MPA Nazia Raheel.
The Syndicate held that under the under the GCU Ordinance 2002 it had powers to hold, control and administer the property and funds of the university and it without prejudice should intervene to ensure the smooth functioning of the university.
The Syndicate members also appreciated the university’s administration for timely convening the emergent meeting of the syndicate.
