The workers and supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the city gathered at the Insaf House on Saturday evening celebrate the decision of election tribunal accepting Imran Khan’s petition challenging the result of 2013 polls on grounds of rigging.
The workers distributed sweets among themselves and also to passersby on Sharea Faisal.
The PTI chief Imran Khan had challenged the victory of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq from constituency NA-122 in the 2013 general elections. The Punjab’s election tribunal declared its result on Saturday evening, declaring Ayaz Sadiq’s victory from NA-122 as null and void and issuing orders for repolling in the constituency.
As soon as the decision as announced, a large number of supporters and activists gathered at Insaf House, shouting slogans in support of their party chief. Their jubilance was evident as they chanted “Dutt key khara hai Imran Khan, naya baney ga Pakistan” (Imran stands firm, a new Pakistan will emerge).
Talking to The News, PTI MPA Khurran Sherzaman termed the decision as historic and remarked that it would prove to be a milestone in the history of elections in Pakistan by ensuring a transparent system for future polling.
The constituency NA-122 was among the four controversial seats upon which the PTI had demanded repolling while challenging the results.
