AWKUM students protest teacher arrest by FIA
MARDAN: Students of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan on Wednesday staged a protest rally outside Mardan Press Club against the arrest of a lecturer by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The protest rally was led by Mohammad Ghalib, Mohammad Ismail and other students, chanting slogans and demanding the release of the university lecturer.Talking to the media, they said the officials of FIA arrested Akhtar Khan, a lecturer of Political Science Department, from his house on Monday. They said that FIA charged him under the Cybercrime Act, sections-10 and 11, which are usually applied to militants.The protesters said it was unfair on the part of the FIA to charge a university lecturer under such a law.
They demanded the immediate release of the lecturer and also legal access to him. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
