Entire nation united over Kashmir issue: Qureshi
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said the entire nation is united over Kashmir issue and there is no question of weakness in this regard.
Responding to points raised by the opposition in National Assembly, he said Kashmir issue has been internationalised after 1965 due to effective and prompt diplomacy of the government, the Radio Pakistan reported.
He said this issue has been raised and discussed in the US Congress, EU parliament, UN Security Council, OIC, and parliaments of various countries.Qureshi said human rights organisations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have also supported Pakistan’s stance of grave human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
The foreign minister said about seventy heads of states, governments, and foreign ministers of different countries were contacted to sensitise the world community to highlight the Kashmir issue.
He said we have tried to send the voice and concerns of the people of Pakistan to Kashmiris through Radio waves across the Line of Control, living under constant siege for over 120 days.
Qureshi said over 1100 protest demonstrations have been reported during relaxation of curfew by the Indian occupation forces in the valley. He said India is afraid of the backlash of Kashmiris to its illegal acts of annexing Kashmir on 5 August this year.
The foreign minister invited the opposition to come forward to give its input and assured them every positive suggestion will be incorporated to highlight the Kashmir issue.
Speaking on the occasion, opposition members called for declaring a diplomatic emergency to sensitise the international community over human rights violations in occupied Kashmir at the hands of the Indian forces. They said an emergency summit of the OIC should be convened over Kashmir issue.
