PHC refers case about Afghan refugees to relevant authorities
PESHAWAR: A division bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday referred a case of regulating the stay and businesses of Afghan refugees to the authorities concerned.
One Lal Jan Khattak had moved the PHC against the Afghan refugees doing business in the country and seeking to restrict their movement. The petitioner demanded to regulate the movement of the Afghan refugees in the country.
The petitioner said the unchecked movement of Afghans had created several issues for the locals. A division bench of the PHC after hearing arguments referred the case to the authorities concerned for legal action under the law to regulate the stay of the refugees in the country.
Students exhibit skills at sports event
The students at a colourful festival amused the visitors with their sports skills at a private educational institution with speakers highlighting the importance of sports for inculcating discipline, confidence and competitiveness among students.
The students belonging to different “houses” enthusiastically participated in several events including aerobics, physical training drill, exercises, races and games. The running races included short distance sprint, relay race, hurdles race and sack race. To fill further amusement to the event some games were also held for the parents, which they fully enjoyed. At the end of the event prizes were distributed among the winning players. The “sport fest” started with releasing of colourful balloons in the air by former world squash champion, Qamar Zaman, who was the chief guest, and headmistress of the school Saba Tahir.
The surroundings to the playground and entrance were vibrantly decorated with buntings, posters and balloons giving a fascinating sight to the visitors. Students enthusiastically participated in different events and received loud applauses from the visitors, especially after students of different classes performed aerobics with loud background music. Qamar Zaman appreciated children’s enthusiasm and school management efforts and emphasized the importance of sports and discipline in life.
He said that sports and other extracurricular activities were important for children as apart from academics, recreation was also necessary for students.
“Sports play vital role in overall growth of students, physical as well as mental, as a sound body possesses a sound mind,” said Saba Tahir, headmistress of the City School Hayatabad, Junior. She said that they as educationists and parents significantly play a vital role in inculcating these qualities in the children.
Sewing machines distributed
MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company BV has donated 80 sewing machines to the underprivileged women hailing from communities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A press release said the MOL Pakistan donated 40 sewing machines to MPA Maliha Ali Asghar Khan and 40 to ex-chairperson KPCSW, Neelum Toru.
Forty sewing machines were distributed among the women residing in the area of Rajoya, a small town located in Havelian tehsil, Abbottabad district, by Maliha Asghar. The remaining 40 were distributed among females in Toru village in Mardan district by Neelum Toru. Both distribution ceremonies were attended by women members of the National Assembly to support the cause. The focus of this initiative was to provide an opportunity for women to financially support themselves, provide prosperity and growth to their families. “We encourage women empowerment and believe in the hard work and perseverance of the women of Pakistan, which is why we are encouraging and supporting females to become a productive member of society,” MOL Group Regional Vice-President Middle East Africa and Pakistan Ali Murtaza Abbas commented.
