MARDAN: Police on Thursday launched the dispute resolution council in Rustam Circle for the settlement of minor disputes at community level with an aim to provide relief to people and minimise the burden of police and courts.
The launching ceremony was held at the newly built DRC Hall at Charguli Police Post in Rustam, where the council members took oath of their responsibilities.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sher Akbar Khan, District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Sajjad Khan, Member National Assembly (MNA) Mujahid Khan, Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Tufail Anjum and other officials were also present in the launching ceremony. The RPO on the occasion administered oath to the newly established DRC members. Speaking on the occasion, the RPO said that the concept of dispute resolution by local elders already exists in Pashtun culture, but in the previous government of PTI in 2013, the former IG Nasir Khan Durrani used the concept in an effective manner.
The non-political elders of DRC include retired judges, advocates, bankers, ex-servicemen, and lady members who resolve different disputes.
In his speech on the occasion, District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Sajjad Khan said that police department has made efforts to bring about a positive change in the ‘thana culture’ and ensure prompt settlement of various disputes.
Sajjad Khan added the members of the council had carefully been selected. “A DRC already established for Mardan, Katlang and Takhtbhai is doing well and reduced burden on judicial system. We are fully supporting it,” the DPO added.
