Pakistan off to flying start with big win over Maldives
KARACHI: Pakistan were off to a flying start on Thursday when they defeated Maldives 3-0 in their Group B opener of the men’s volleyball event of the 13th South Asian Games in Dasarath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu.
Pakistan held a firm control of the game right from the start till final whistle. After winning the first set 25-16, Pakistan faced some resistance from the little known Maldives in the second set before claiming it 25-23 to take their lead to 2-0.
However, in the third set Pakistan showed great improvement in every department of the game and clinched it 25-15 to wrap-up the game in style. Pakistan will now face dangerous Sri Lanka in their next game on Saturday (tomorrow). In a Group A match, Bangladesh beat Nepal 3-2. On Wednesday India had defeated Bangladesh 3-0.
