PESHAWAR: The Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) is launching a week-long cleanliness campaign from Friday to provide neat and clean environment to tourists in the scenic region. The proposal was approved at a meeting held on Wednesday with Secretary Sports, Tourism, Culture, Archaeology, Museums & Youth Affairs Department Muhammad Azam Khan in the chair.
Azam Khan, who is also director general of the GDA, said that the students of educational institutions, local population and the tourists will participate in the cleanliness drive. He said the Galiyat region is the major hub of tourists these days and the GDA is duty bound to provide clean and peaceful environment to the visitors.
In this regard, it has been planned to kick off a week-long cleanliness campaign with the help of students, local residents and visiting tourists.
The drive will be held in the major valleys of Galiyati — Nathiagali, Dungagali and Khanaspur. The residents would be given bags to collect garbage around their homes, which will be later disposed of by the GDA. Awareness drive about cleanliness and its role in development of a nation would also be launched for the students and tourists alike.
To improve the cleanliness condition, the GDA high ups have asked the employees to perform duty devotedly. The management of the GDA had terminated the services of 25 employees for dereliction of duty.
A number of other interventions were also proposed during the meeting to overhaul and restructure the GDA. It was decided that steps should be taken to solve the problem of parking lot for the tourist vehicles, facilitate the visitors and efficiently manage the increasing rush of tourists to region these days.
