Minister for building ramps for special students

LAHORE:Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun has said that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) should make it mandatory for the universities to build ramps for physically-challenged students.

He said this while speaking at a ceremony held in connection with prime minister’s scheme for the provision of electric wheelchairs to physically-challenged students of universities here on Monday.

The minister also directed the vice-chancellors (VCs) of public sector universities of the province to build ramps on campuses. He also distributed electric wheelchairs and certificate among the physically-challenged students.

Higher Education Commission Executive Director Dr Fateh Marri said 600 electric wheelchairs would be distributed among the physically-challenged under the programme.

He added in the first phase 208 students were being provided with the wheelchairs. Literary festival enthrals literature lovers: The sixth Faisalabad Literary Festival held at Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Auditorium on November 22 and 23 was an amalgamation of artists under one roof. People from all walks of life attended the event that included the participation of famous poets, writers, and actors.

The two-day event was hosted by Masood Ashar. Asghar Nadeem Syed presided over the opening session. Ahsan Khan, Ali Aftab, Ali Rehman, Amjad Islam Amjad, Amar Sindhu, Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra, Baber Niazi, Faisal Sajjad among others delivered speeches.

The Faisalabad Literary Festival 2019 is a glowing testimony to the fact that literary figures are an asset to our society who promote and guide positive thinking through their writings and poetry.

The festival enthralled the literature lovers and readers who swarmed the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Auditorium to see famous writers on Friday and Saturday. It was an amasing opportunity for the people of the industrial city as it was a step towards promoting knowledge, literature and fine arts where it provided the best recreation to literature lovers.

PU MA-MSc results: Punjab University (PU) Examinations Department has declared the results of MA/MSc Part-I & II Annual Examinations 2019. According to a press release issued here Monday, total 52,577 candidates appeared in MA/MSc Part-I and 19,124 passed the examination while pass percentage is 36.37.

Around 40,042 candidates appeared in MA/MSc Part-II and 20375 passed the examination while pass percentage is 50.88. The details are available at Punjab University website www.pu.edu.pk.

Accidents: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 1,049 road traffic accidents in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

In these accidents, seven people died, whereas 1,178 were injured. Out of which, 760 seriously injured were shifted to different hospitals. Whereas, 418 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.
