PO killed in ‘encounter’

BAHAWALPUR: A proclaimed offender (PO) was killed in a reported encounter with police near Tibi Hoot Wala locality in PS Sadr Ahmadpur East.
According to a police press release, the PO identified as Shabbir alias Shabeera and his gang members were on the way to loot the locals near Tibi Hoot Wala, when they intercepted by police team. During the exchange of fires, Shabeera announced surrendering to the police but his accomplices shot him dead and fled away.
SIX RESCUED: Seven occupants of a speeding car fell into AP Branch canal near Basti Arain, Bahawalpur. Six were saved. The car driver Muhammad Tahir was still missing.
The Rescue-1122 divers continued their operation for the recovery of body of the driver.
TRAIN DRIVER INJURED: An assistant driver of the Lahore-bound 27-Up Shalimar Express suffered injuries when pieces of a window pane of the engine struck him near Arshad Town on Saturday evening. Driver Shaukat suffered injuries when someone pelted a stone at the window pane of the moving engine of the train. The main driver halted the train at Bahawalpur railway station. Police arrested a man named Aqeel of Arshad Town over hitting the train.
BOAT OVERTURNS: A small boat carrying 15 villagers, including children and women, Saturday overturned in its bid to cross the Punjnad Link Canal near Bangla Masti. The locals saved the occupants of the boat. According to police, no casualty was reported in the incident.
