CHITRAL: Stranded in far-off areas in upper Chitral after floods washed away all link roads, several students including girls of the University of Peshawar (UoP) and University of Malakand (UoM) belonging to Mastuj sub-division may fail to appear in examinations scheduled for August 10.
Worried about the future of their daughters and sons, the parents of the affected students held a meeting at Mastuj bazaar. The parents of the students asked the governor and vice-chancellors of these universities to either postpone the MA and MSc examinations or make special arrangements for their transportation to Peshawar and Malakand.
“The examination at the UoP would start on August 10 but all the students are stranded in their villages due to the floods,” said a statement issued after the meeting.
They said most of the students were getting education at the University of Peshawar who had gone to their villages for celebrating Eid.
“It would take months to build the destroyed roads and the government must take measures to shift the stranded students to Chitral city or reschedule the examination,” said Mujeeb Khan, a retired soldier.
The floods have destroyed all the roads in upper Chitral and it takes four to five days to reach Chitral city while crossing difficult rotted paths. Sources said many students also failed to enroll for the entry test for the medical colleges owing to the closure of the roads.
