Pakistan win three silver, two bronze in Special Olympics

KARACHI: Pakistan on Wednesday opened their account with their girls winning three silver medals and the boys securing two bronze in different events of the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.
The girls bagged one silver in swimming and two silver in cycling, while the boys claimed two bronze medals in cycling.
As per details provided by the Special Olympic Pakistan (SOP), Aqsa Ahmed Janjua won silver, the first medal for the country, in the 50m freestyle swimming with a timing of 58.40 seconds.
Luo Xiau Chun of SO China ended with a gold with a 55.90 timing, while Skrij Ema of SO Slovenia clinched bronze by clocking 58.61 seconds.
It was the division 8 event which was contested by six special athletes.
Memhona Hussain clinched silver in the 500m time trial with a timing of 1:15.72. India’s Meera Kumari won gold with 1:14.58 timing.
In 500m time trial, Khadija Irfan won silver with a timing of 2:23.44.
Salman Siddiqui and Usman Saeed bagged bronze each in the 500m time trial. Uzma Yousuf and Sumbal Yousuf finished last in these races contested by eight riders.
In basketball, Pakistan convincingly defeated Portugal 23-10 in the first round game of Division 3 at Galen Centre. Muhammad Usman played a key role in Pakistan’s triumph by scoring 12 points.
