Legislators promise minorities commission
PESHAWAR: Legislators from various political parties have promised to table a draft for formation of commission on the status of minority rights in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. They made the pledge during a consultation with members of provincial assembly on possible enactment of new laws for minorities and religious freedom.

PESHAWAR: Legislators from various political parties have promised to table a draft for formation of commission on the status of minority rights in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
They made the pledge during a consultation with members of provincial assembly on possible enactment of new laws for minorities and religious freedom. South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAP-Pk) had arranged the programme.
The legislators acquainted with the proposed draft shared views on the rights of minorities. Nusrat Ara and a senior journalist Shamim Shahid in their detailed presentation informed the legislators about the issues being faced by minorities and the proposed draft as well.
Shamim Shahid lauded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government for passing Minority Property Protection Bill. He demanded framing of by-laws and their implementation to protect minorities’ property, particularly those of the Hindu community, which he added either occupied in the name heritage by the department or grabbed by the land mafia.
