Islamabad: Special assistant to the prime minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Division, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, chaired a meeting regarding the introduction of local government system in Islamabad Capital Territory at his office in Cabinet Division on Friday, says a press release.
The meeting was attended by Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, MNA, Additional Secretary Interior Tariq Mahmood Khan, Chief Commissioner ICT Zulfiqar Haider, Deputy DG Law Capital Development Authority (CDA) Najma Azhar, Member Engineering CDA Shahid Sohail, Director Law CDA Naeem Dar and Director DMA (CDA) Shahbaz.
The meeting discussed in detail the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Local Government Bill earlier passed by Senate. The meeting endorsed the amendment made in the Bill especially regarding holding the party based elections.
Barrister Zafarullah Khan said that the transition of functions and manpower from the Capital Development Authority and local administration to local government should be in smooth manner.
He directed the CDA to make the categories of directorates for smoothly transfer of directorates and manpower to the proposed local government. The CDA official told the meeting that the total number of CDA’s employees is 15,000.
Chief Commissioner ICT Zulfiqar Haider told the meeting that new rules and bylaws have been formulated.
