BAHAWALPUR: Residents of Gulberg Town, Chishtian, on Saturday staged a demonstration against the City Chishtian police after placing the dead body of a youth at Chowk Fawara.
The protesters including women and children pelted the policemen with stones while women also attacked the cops, which forced them to flee from the spot. The protesters alleged that the City Chishtian police were supporting land grabbers who had murdered their youth Kamran during the illegal possession of their house. The relatives of the deceased placed the dead body on a road and blocked the traffic at Chowk Fawara. When the police officials rushed to the spot to restore traffic, the protesting women attacked the police. Later, the protesters ended their protest when the police high up informed them that the murder case had been registered against the alleged culprits who were on bail. They were assured that the police would request the court for cancellation of their bails on Monday (tomorrow).
13 COPS SUSPENDED: RPO Ehsan Sadiq on Saturday suspended 13 assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) for corruption.
Four suspended ASIs belong to Bahawalpur district, five from Bahawalnagar and four from Rahimyar Khan district. The RPO said that the cop’s basic duty was to serve the masses and not to plunder them. He asked the policemen to serve the general public with honesty to boost the image of police department.
