185 orphans fall prey to food poisoning in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Around 185 orphans sheltered at the Pakistan Sweet Homes (PSH) in Islamabad, were rushed to hospitals when they fell ill after consuming substandard food on Sunday. At least 60 affected children were taken to the Holy Family Hospital while others were rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) hospital. All the child specialists and paramedical staff were called in owing to high number of affected children.
Meanwhile, according to the PSH, commonly known as Pakistan Baitul Mal, the children had consumed bread and tea for breakfast. They said the condition of the children was better and they would be discharged from the hospitals shortly.
A spokesperson for the PIMS said that most of the children being treated at the hospital were suffering from gastro and diarrhea. Pakistan Sweet Homes Patron-in chief Zamrud Khan said that the children were served milk and bread in the breakfast. He said that the children were shifted to hospitals after they complained about stomach ache and diarrhea. Khan said that sample of the food served to the children would be handed over to health officials for laboratory test.
