Kidney & liver institute to be a milestone, says Shahbaz

CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of Board of Governors of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute & Research Centre, here Sunday.
President Board of Governors Prof Dr Saeed Akhtar gave a briefing regarding various affairs of the project. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said the project of Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute and Research Centre was of special importance regarding public health and this institution would be state-of-the-art institute of South Asia and a milestone in public health sector, where modern medical facilities would be available to patients while facility of kidney and liver transplant would also be available. He directed that planning should be made for recruitment of specialist doctors and nurses for the institute. He said the Punjab government would arrange training of doctors and nurses from abroad with its own resources. He issued instructions for the setting up of a technical sub-committee for making immediate decisions on some matters and said the institutions concerned should ensure all-out cooperation in this regard. He directed that provincial steering committee should hold meeting regularly after every 15 days and work should be carried out with commitment for the implementation of this very important project.
workforce: Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting regarding preparation and demand of skilled manpower in the province which reviewed promotion of vocational education, development of quality skilled manpower and capacity-building of vocational training institutions. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that progress and prosperity of the country depended on promotion of vocational education. He said that problems like poverty and unemployment could be controlled by promotion of vocational education. He said that skilled workforce was of vital importance for the strengthening of economy of the country. He said the Punjab government had adopted a solid strategy for the promotion of vocational education. He said the target of making two million youths skillful in next three years would be achieved at any cost and vocational institutions would have to work in a coordinated manner to yield good results. He said that provision of resources for equipping the youth with modern knowledge was a useful investment. He said there would be no shortage of resources in the preparation of skilled manpower in accordance with the local and foreign markets. He said there was a need for capacity-building of vocational institutions of Punjab and making them active. He said that full benefit would be taken from the experiences and expertise of City and Guild for promotion of vocational education and capacity-building of training institutions. He said the Punjab government had made thousands of youths skillful through Skills Development Fund.
He said that scope of skills development programme would be expanded to all districts of the province. He said that he would not tolerate delay in the measures for the promotion of vocational education.
He said there was a need for consolidating all institutions concerned with promotion of vocational education and bringing them under one umbrella; therefore, a practicable programme could be evolved for this purpose. Additional Director of City and Guild for South Asia Mufti Hashim and his team also attended the meeting.
